The knife shown has a hamon (the wavy lines on the blade). This done by heat treating the blades using a technique that was mastered by Japanese smiths.
Each hamon is unique and most likely impossible to repeat. As such I believe each piece is a piece of art in itself..
Its my hope that my customers might display these knives to regularly appreciate the beauty of the hamon. There is so much extra work in a knife to produce them and I really do think they are beautiful.
As such I like to refer to them as functional art.
